There may be more great bookstores in Zagreb selling books in English – but I had to post this if only to convey the greatness of Znanje 🙂

As you may be able to tell from the entrance they are not going for the old school charm of dark wooden shelving and deep comfy reading chairs. This a a well lit, clean, white laminate 2 storeys of modern shopping. But what it is lacking in old-timey charm it makes up for in spades, when it comes to the selection of books!

I is possibly the greatest selection of books in English and other languages I’ve seen outside of English speaking countries BUT with the added value of a non-anglo perspective and the selection that comes with it – this is a dream of an intellectual European bookshop.

They have books in Croatian, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Russian, oh the dream of pan-european knowledge and wisdom shoulder to shoulder.

There were separate sections for all the genres and types of books – I was mostly checking out the English fiction selection was amazed by it. I was diving into all the things not usually available in English speaking countries: Literature from Germany, Eastern Europe, Russia.
